Kylian Mbappe has come in for bizarre criticism from his manager Luis Enrique, despite a stunning performance against Reims in Ligue 1.
The Ligue 1 giants romped to a 3-0 victory over Will Still’s side, with the France captain scoring all three goals as he showcased his talent at a time when rumours surrounding his future are rife.
The French superstar will become a free agent at the end of the season as things stand and should he fail to agree new terms with the Ligue 1 side, there will be a host of elite clubs queuing up to secure one of the world’s best players for free.
But despite his stunning show on Saturday afternoon, PSG boss Luis Enrique was strangely left unimpressed by his star forward’s performance.
‘I’m not really happy with Kylian Mbappe today. I have nothing to say about the goals. But he can help the team more, in a different way,’ said Enrique after the game.
PSG star Kylian Mbappe has brushed off question over his future ahead of next summer
The Frenchman continued his superb form this season with a hat-trick away to Reims
However it was not enough to impress manager Luis Enrique who claimed ‘we want more’ from Mbappe
‘I’ll talk to him about it first… Kylian is one of the best in the world. But we need more. We want him to do more.’
He had endured a tense relationship with his club over the summer amid uncertainty over his future and at one point he was banished to play with the B-team.
But links to Real Madrid, who look to be favourites to land him, have continued and the 24-year-old has insisted he does not want to keep talking about his future.
‘Have I come to terms with my summer? The most important thing is playing football, you (the media) do the rest well,’ Mbappe said after PSG’s 3-0 win over Reims.
‘I don’t want to talk about it and add fuel to the fire. I think there is already too many rumours.’
Over the summer, Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Hilal even lodged a world record £257million, but the player opted against moving to the Middle East.
Mbappe has since resolved matters with PSG and returned to the first team – going on to score 13 goals in 10 Ligue 1 starts , looking to brush off questions around his future.
Last week, Real released an unusual statement to deny rumours that they’ve been in talks with Mbappe.
The club said: ‘Given the information recently issued and published by different media outlets, in which there is speculation about alleged negotiations between the player Kylian Mbappe and our club, Real Madrid CF would like to state that this information is completely false and that no such negotiations have taken place with a player who belongs to PSG.’
That was followed by reports this week which stated Real have cooled their interest in the player, as per Cadena Ser.
