‘The first electric F1 car!’: Fans discuss the potential of Elon Musk’s Tesla creating a new Formula 1 team

Formula One is currently considered as the highest form of competition in the motorsports world with twenty teams contesting with each other for the coveted Constructors’ Championship title. But, in the next few years, there is a good chance that the number of participating squads in F1 will increase. FIA, the governing body of the pinnacle of motorsports, has already given the green light to Andretti Autosport to join the grid and now, if the Formula One Management gives the commercial license, F1 will soon have twenty one teams.

Andretti Autosport is built under the helm of Michael Andretti, who wants to go ahead with his dream of an all-American team in Formula One. The former racer has already confirmed their team will have a line-up consisting of American drivers only. The current grid does have Haas as a team hailing from the US, but they are not “all-American” as their recruits Nico Hulkenberg and Kevin Magnussen are from Germany and Denmark respectively. Upon its entry, Andretti Autosport might take F1 to every American household and finally help the franchise shed its ‘mostly-for-Europeans’ tag.

Formula 1 has been trying to establish a fanbase in the US for a long time. The FIA organized the first-ever Miami GP last year in an attempt to spread the word about Formula 1 across the pond. This year, in Miami, tech billionaire Elon Musk came to visit. He is the head behind Tesla, a brand that manufactures prime-class electric vehicles. Musk’s appearance at an F1 race and the fact that the sport franchise is slowly gaining traction in the US have gotten the fans to wonder if Tesla might enter F1 soon.

Tesla creator Elon Musk is known for his eccentric attitude. The South African-born business mogul has never been the one to go by the rulebook. And it is well-known that Formula 1 is all about the rules and regulations that are announced by the FIA and implemented by their stewards. So stringent are the rules in the pinnacle of motorsports that Max Verstappen recently mused that he would like to buy F1 and make sure drivers get more say in setting the regulations.

But some of the fans pointed out that it would be illogical to introduce Tesla cars into F1 as they ran on electricity. The race cars in Formula One require massive power that can practically not be generated in an electric car. Here is what the fans had to say about the proposal that Tesla could enter F1:

In other news, Elon Musk had visited the F1 paddock in Austin, Texas alongwith his son only a few weeks ago. The pair went to the Mercedes garage and were captured by the paparazzis at the high-profile event. With the Las Vegas GP coming up, it is expected that many famous faces like Musk’s might pop up once again.
