Why Did Sandra Bullock Accepted to Work on The Proposal?
The 2009 film was a critical success starring Bullock and Reynolds as the leading cast with Malin Åkerman, Craig T. Nelson, Mary Steenburgen, and Betty White in supporting roles.
While the former had “no desire” to take any rom-com roles anymore, the film script changed her mind. In an interview with Glamour, she shared,
“And I read it. And I was really upset (laughs). Because it was so well written… “
Though the script caught her attention, she was still wondering how the film would exceed her standards. It was when the Deadpool star came into the action!
“The problem, though, was who can direct a comedy like that? Who can raise the bar? Who are you going to cast? And they said, ‘What if we cast Ryan Reynolds?’ I’ve known Ryan for a while, so as soon as they said that, it made it a lot more difficult to say no to.”
With Anne Fletcher directing the project, the duo did extremely well with their intense chemistry that eventually raised the bar. Due to her portrayal, Bullock got a Golden Globe Award nomination with the film grossing $317 million worldwide.
