Alex Albon admits that Wiliams is feeling pressure from AlphaTauri amid the latter’s strong run of form at recent races.

AlphaTauri spent much of the Formula 1 campaign at the foot of the Constructors’ Championship but after scoring 16 points across the last three Grands Prix weekends, it has lifted itself to eighth in the standings.

It now sits just seven points down on Williams, who is hunting its first top-seven finish in the Constructors’ Championship since 2017.

The Red Bull sister team has brought multiple upgrades during the campaign with its final update coming at the United States Grand Prix last month.

When asked if Williams is feeling pressure from AlphaTauri, Albon told media including RacingNews365: “We are, I’d say so.

“We’re still doing our own thing and the focus is always just to execute the weekend that we’re doing.

“Obviously, these guys have definitely stepped up their game over the last few races and they’re becoming more and more of a threat, not just for us, but even to the Alpines and to the midfield.

“So it’s been difficult to fend them off. We’ve got two races left, obviously, and it’s a seven point difference.”

This weekend in Las Vegas will mark a step into the unknown for all teams as the Strip Circuit makes its F1 debut.

However, the circuit layout appears to suit Williams’ FW45 challenger, with a long straight making up the final sector of the track.

Albon is hopeful that Willliams’ car will be more suited to Las Vegas’ characteristics than recent circuits which may help it stay ahead of AlphaTauri.

“We’re going into this weekend with, we hope, a more competitive car than we’ve had over Mexico and Brazil,” he said.

“So let’s see, but it is going to be a battle of attrition and just about executing everything we can, because, I think on paper, they are a little bit quicker than us.”
