‘Tremendous quality’… Phil Foden raves about talented £45m Chelsea player

Phil Foden has paid tribute to Chelsea’s Cole Palmer after his debut for England’s senior team last night.

Manchester City and England star Phil Foden, 23, may be better placed than anyone to speak about the Chelsea youngster.

Foden is an exceptional footballer to go from Man City academy talent to first-team sensation at the Etihad Stadium. The left-footed playmaker is a regular in England squad, too

For Cole Palmer, he’s followed a similar path by going from Man City’s youth system to their first team. However, he made the bold decision in the summer to make a £45million transfer (Evening Standard) to Chelsea to pursue more senior minutes.

In fairness, the 21-year-old’s decision to leave Manchester has led to him becoming a key Chelsea player and senior England international after yesterday’s debut versus Malta.

Phil Foden applause

Foden raved about his former Man City teammate after reuniting with him for England in Friday night’s 2-0 win against Malta. In particular, he mentioned the youngster’s unreal composure.

When discussing Palmer to beIN SPORTS, Foden said: “He’s so relaxed on the pitch. He looks like he’s been there for years. He’s such a young lad, tremendous quality.

“He’s someone I know really well. I tried to help him as much as I could at City when he was coming up. He’s at Chelsea now doing really well. I’m delighted for him today to get his debut.”

Cole Palmer rise is exciting

Everyone’s been aware of Palmer as a promising youngster in Man City’s squad during the past year or two, but it’s taken a move to a Premier League rival to make the next step. Now, it feels like Chelsea’s the perfect environment for him to thrive and develop.

The left-footed attacker caught the eye with a 30-minute cameo display on his England debut this week.

On top of that, his form in Chelsea colours during the first few months of the campaign has been outstanding.

Speaking via talkSPORT (10:40pm, 13 November), Jason Cundy recently hailed Palmer as a “magnificent” player with great leadership traits.

He already plays with such confidence and freedom whenever he steps on the pitch. We imagine this England recognition will only further help him.
