One Piece: 5 Things That Prove Marines Are Evil

The Marines have done many questionable things in One Piece.

The Marines are considered just and kind by the majority of the people; after all, they claim to be the upholders of law and order. But the truth is that the organization is riddled with corrupt and immoral individuals who do not care about the welfare of people.

In One Piece, fans have seen the Marines commit many crimes for which they were almost never held accountable. These instances beg the question: are Marines truly just? One might think Doflamingo’s iconic quote about justice best describes the Marines, as they are the organization in power, and they will never be punished, no matter what kind of heinous activity they do.

5. Killing People Of Ohara

A Massacre That Changed The World

Ohara was once a great nation that was home to some of the best scholars in the world. As a country that devoted itself to research and finding the truth, people throughout the world knew about Ohara.

The scholars of Ohara made one grave mistake. They decided to learn about the Void Century. It is a sensitive subject, and anyone who tries to delve into it is punished severely. Only the Poneglyphs contain records of the Void Century, and so the scholars decided to decipher them. Eventually, the World Government caught a whiff of their actions and sent the Marines to solve this problem. The Marines rounded up all the scholars and killed them. In addition to this, Akainu got rid of the people who had been evacuated on a ship.

4. Lying To Cover Up For Pirates

Blaming Other People

The Marines work to establish peace throughout the world, and pirates are their worst enemies. However, they are not shy about using pirates as tools to achieve a greater goal. For this reason, the Marines invited seven notable pirates to become Shichibukai. These pirates would get immunity from the Marines, and all they had to do was fight for the organization.

Many pirates abused their status and committed many gruesome acts. The first example that fans saw was during the Alabasta arc, where Crocodile nearly destroyed the entire country and nobody interfered. Even after Luffy took him down, the Marines changed the story so that it would benefit them. Doflamingo’s tyrannical rule over Dressrosa could also have been stopped by the Marines, but once again, they did not interfere. Both of these things prove that the Marines are extremely corrupt.

3. Murdering Babies

All-time Low

If killing adults was not bad enough, the Marines tarnished their reputation even further after the death of Gol D. Roger. The organization knew that Roger was going to have a kid, and they decided that they must exterminate his spawn so that his bloodline would cease to exist.

The Marines went to every island that the Pirate King had visited, and they snatched newborn babies from their mothers and killed them. This was an incredibly vile act, and nobody from the Marines seemed to stand against it. The silver lining of this incident was that Roger’s son was born and grew up to be a fantastic pirate.

2. Accepting Bribes

Turning A Blind Eye

Many of the Marines are arrogant and often take advantage of innocent, helpless people. When Luffy went to Shells Town, he learned how Axe-Hand Morgan terrorized the locals. His son, Helmeppo, took advantage of his father’s authority and often bullied people. It is fair to say that the town would have remained in the same condition if Luffy and his friends hadn’t defeated Morgan.

In the Arlong Park arc, another scandal about the Marines came to light. Nezumi, a Naval Captain, accepted bribes from Arlong. This helped the fish-man remain in East Blue without any problems. Due to the corrupt Marine, Arlong was able to terrorize everyone in Cocoyashi Village. He even killed those who opposed him and couldn’t pay tribute. The responsibility of the entire village fell on Nami’s shoulders, and the young girl had to put her life in danger to steal gold and valuables so that Arlong would leave the villagers alone.

1. Helping The Celestial Dragons

Supporting The Worst People

The Celestial Dragons are the worst individuals in the series. They live in Marijoa, as they consider regular people nothing but insects. The Celestial Dragons are above the common law, and they are free to do whatever they want to. The Sabaody Archipelago arc showed how disgusting the Celestial Dragons really are. They were traveling with their slaves and treated them as if they were indispensable trash.

They made their way to the auction house, where they participated in the purchase of slaves. The Celestial Dragons don’t have a shortage of money, so they had no problem spending exorbitant amounts of cash. They also shot a fish-man because they felt disgusted by him. When Luffy punched the Celestial Dragon in retaliation, the Marines sent Kizaru to deal with the problem.
