Barcelona-bound Vitor Roque hailed by legendary ex-forward: “Most complete striker in Brazil”

Speaking in an interview on Boleiragem, on the Brazilian channel Sportv (h/t Mundo Deportivo), former Barcelona forward Romario has hailed Vitor Roque as the ‘most complete striker in Brazil’.

Romario, a legend in Brazil, spent a little under two years at Barcelona during his playing career between 1993 and 1995, and is seen as an icon.

And, he has now given his seal of approval on the Blaugrana’s future star Vitor Roque, who will be arriving at the club next year.

Roque the best in Brazil, says Romario

Talking about the 18-year-old, who is still with Athletico Paranaense, he said: “The most complete striker in Brazil.”

However, he went on to add that the future generation of Brazil, including the likes of Vitor Roque and soon-to-be Real Madrid player Endrick, must not be compared to himself and another legendary former striker, Ronaldo.

“I don’t think comparisons should be made between today’s strikers in relation to Ronaldo and myself,” Romario stated.

Praising the pair, he added: “Both have the ability and qualities to leave Athlético Paranense and Palmeiras and go to clubs like Barcelona or Real Madrid.”

“They are both there and I am sure they can become great idols and can make a difference. If you ask me what I imagine at the next World Cup, I imagine that both of them will be with the Brazilian national team.”

Barcelona eager to incorporate Roque in January

Barcelona reached an agreement with Athletico Paranaense to sign Vitor Roque in the summer earlier this year, but his arrival was scheduled for 2024.

With the new year closing in, Barça are eager to add the 18-year-old striker to their ranks in the January transfer window.

But problems with Financial Fair Play issue continue to be a hurdle while the recent injury to Gavi could force the club to pursue a midfielder instead.

It remains to be seen what happens with Roque and whether he arrives at Barcelona in the winter or next summer. But what seems certain is that the youngster is destined for success.
