Young mother of 2 bags bachelors degree from US university 14 years after dropping out

A young mother of 2 named Chatora Herring has returned back to university to complete bag a Bachelor’s degree after 14 years of dropping out of high school to work.

Chatora dropped out of college at the age of 19 to work and fend for her financial needs with hopes of getting back to school soon but life took a different turn for her. She got married and continued moving from different careers.

Despite having a work of her own, Chatora still had school as her number one priority. She returned to the university to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Studies University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.

She attended the university amidst different challenges. Chatora was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, her youngest child was also diagnosed with autism while at the same time dealing with a divorce case.

“Coming back to school was hard because I was now a mother of 2, had multiple sclerosis and was going through a divorce. Life really happened,” she said. Despite all these challenges, Chatora remained determined and was able to obtain her bachelor’s degree.

“It’s been a real struggle staying in school this go around but I did it! My biggest motivation this time was my children. I was originally set to graduate in May 2020 but I pushed through so that this would be our year despite the challenges that were faced,” she said.

She mentioned that it was her love for people of all age brackets and backgrounds that drew her to Human Development and Family studies. Chatora added that her professional aspiration is to obtain a career where she can help people in any way.
