Selena Gomez says she’s done ‘protecting people that never protected her’ as she releases her introspective new album Rare

We’re “done with Selena Gomez being silent.”

Leading into a new chapter in her life and career, the 27-year-old singer/actress claimed she is no longer ‘protecting those that never protected’ her.

Gomez recently told Billboard that she’s tired of living her life according to other people’s expectations and judgments. Gomez launched her highly regarded third album, Rare, on Friday.

She told reporter Jason Lipshutz, “I used to be terrified of saying anything, but I’ve said this before.” “I would find myself defending those who had never stood up for or taken care of me.”

Although she didn’t say specifically who she was talking about, it was reasonable to presume that many of the songs were inspired by her tumultuous relationship with her ex, Justin Bieber.

Selena described how her continual worry of saying or doing the “wrong thing” incapacitated her due to the criticism she receives from being in the spotlight.

“Although that is who I am and I am proud of it, I wouldn’t want to say the wrong thing or give the impression that I was acting for any other reason than simply being a kind person.”

However, the singer eventually came to the conclusion that it was pointless to accommodate the feelings of others.

“It’s just that I finished,” said she. “I felt like I deserved to have a moment for myself after going through so much and putting it all into this album,” the artist said after ending her silence.

Selena told Billboard, “I wanted a record that made people feel something, whether that was a hard relationship to get through, or gaining your confidence back, or being okay with just having fun.” Selena made sure that independence reverberated throughout the album.

There are various layers to it, and I’m thankful that after four and a half years, it turned out to be what it is now.

‘People might react however they might react, but I know that I’m proud of putting out the music that I did with the content that it has, because I want nothing more than to relate to people — and I want them to know that they’re not alone, and that all of these feelings are completely normal,’ she told the magazine, demonstrating that she is no longer afraid of people’s reactions. They also saw me mature, thus I believe that this record was crucial for me to make my voice heard.
