A flash mob performance of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody in Paris on September 8 has taken the internet by storm, leaving millions in awe. The performance featured pianist Julien Cohen, 30 musicians, 11-year-old guitar prodigy Olly Pearson, and lead singer Mickey Callisto — whose Freddie Mercury-like stage presence had fans buzzing.

Videos spread rapidly across Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and Reddit, with Cohen’s original Instagram post surpassing 70 million views in just 20 hours. By the end of the week, the clips had amassed hundreds of millions of views, with fans calling the moment “once-in-a-lifetime” and “chills-inducing.”

Fans Debate Callisto as Queen’s Next Frontman

The buzz didn’t stop at the performance itself. Fans began debating whether Mickey Callisto could step in as Queen’s next frontman, following Adam Lambert’s tenure since 2011. When asked directly if he should “take over as Queen’s lead singer,” Callisto’s response was short, humble, and telling: “Never replace Freddie.”

His three simple words quickly went viral, earning praise for his respect for Mercury’s legacy. Speaking about the surreal experience, Callisto said, “Never in a million years would I have thought I would be coming in on a horse and carriage in Paris singing Bohemian Rhapsody.”

Celebrating 50 Years of a Classic

The flash mob was timed to honor the 50th anniversary of Bohemian Rhapsody, originally released in October 1975. For Callisto, Pearson, and Cohen, it was more than a performance — it was a tribute to a song that remains one of the greatest anthems of all time.

Carving His Own Path: Take It Easy

Beyond Queen, Mickey Callisto is establishing his own musical identity. On March 23, 2025, he released his single “Take It Easy” via Ripe Records, a nearly five-minute anthem blending rock, pop, and choral influences with messages of ambition, resilience, and self-compassion.

Born in Sunderland and raised on a council estate, Callisto has supported CMAT on a European tour and performed at major UK festivals. Reflecting on “Take It Easy”, he said: “The song is about being self-made and escaping an environment that holds you back. But even when life feels heavy, you can’t be too hard on yourself — hence the title.”

EP Man on a Mission Out Now

Callisto’s debut EP, Man on a Mission, has officially been released, offering a collection of genre-blending tracks that carry both ambition and heart. As an openly queer artist, Callisto emphasizes inclusivity: “My music isn’t just for queer people — it’s for everyone, from all walks of life. In my song Homospace, the word ‘Homo’ means we are all the same, and we should unite as one.”
