Speaking on her podcast me & dad radio (via MailOnline), Billie’s mum Maggie Baird recalled a time in 2012 (when he was 10) when she was completely obsessed with Justin, and the music video for ‘As Long As You Love Me’ in particular.
So much so, that she and husband Patrick O’Connell considered therapy for Billie, who was 10 at the time, to help her through her strong feelings for JB. “[I remember] driving to the dance studio with Billie, playing this song, [her] sobbing, and then driving back and sobbing,” Maggie recalled.
“And the video, and Billie talking about it, and being excited it was coming out, and just crying and crying…. I just want to say, we did consider taking you to therapy because you were in so much pain over Justin Bieber,” she added.
Billie went on to explain that it wasn’t just the infatuation that made her upset, explaining she was going working through a lot at the time. “There was a period where I cried every single day of my life, when I was like 13, 14, 15. Every single day I cried,” Billie commented.
“And 17, 18 I cried barely at all. I’m proud to say I barely cry anymore and its one thing I’ve overcome. This is a big deal. Not that it’s wrong to cry, but it’s a good thing I feel happier in my life and I don’t want to cry anymore.”
Most recently, Bieber has publicly shown his support for Billie, tearing up in February 2020 about how he wanted to protect her.
In an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, Justin got emotional while talking about his relationship with Billie, who he calls a “superstar.” He said:
“I definitely feel protective of her. It was hard for me, being that young and being in the industry and not knowing where to turn and everyone telling me they loved me, and just turning their back on you in a second. Yeah, it’s hard, because I want her to know that she can count on me.”
