Chelsea could turn their attention towards Everton’s Amadou Onana late in this January window if Conor Gallagher does leave Stamford Bridge.
That is according to transfer speculation this week.
We’re into the final week of the transfer window for clubs to complete business, so will we see any arrivals or exits at Stamford Bridge?
Blues midfielder Conor Gallagher, 23, is a popular name in the rumour mill. In fact, journalist David Ornstein recently told Sky Sports that he still wouldn’t rule out the possibility of Gallagher leaving Chelsea in January amid interest from rivals Tottenham.
Our preference would be for Gallagher to stay in West London and sign a new deal. However, he’s into the last 18 months of his contract and his sale would generate pure profit on the balance sheet.

TEAMtalk has now claimed that Chelsea could reignite interest in signing Everton midfielder Amadou Onana if they do part ways with Gallagher.
It is explained that Premier League club Everton are braced to receive offers for Onana late in the January window.
The report claims that Toffees manager Sean Dyche doesn’t want to sell the 22-year-old Belgian star, but there’s the ongoing financial problems that do complicate matters.
Apparently, Everton would demand at least £50 million before considering selling the athletic defensive midfielder.
Also, Arsenal and Newcastle United are two more league rivals interested in his signature.
Chelsea could move for Amadou Onana
Gallagher and Onana certainly aren’t like-for like midfielders, so we’re sceptical of this particular rumour.
We’re content with Moises Caicedo and Lesley Ugochukwu as the deep-lying midfielders in the squad. Despite Onana’s quality and potential, we don’t really get the idea of Chelsea making a £50m move for him.
If Gallagher’s sold, Chelsea should be putting that cash windfall towards the signing of a proven goalscorer to play the No 9 position.
It’s been a very quiet mid-season transfer window so far, but will it burst into life during the final few days?
