Looking at this photo, many parents may tremble and worry for their children.
Pythons and snakes are dangerous animals because they often eat and attack other species, including humans. Whether venomous or not, these long animals have long been the fear of most people. Adults don’t even dare to come close, leave alone children.
On the social network Facebook, a photo of a boy about 5-6 years old appeared hugging a giant python as if hugging a teddy bear, making many people shiver and chill. There have been many cases of pythons swallowing people, so people have every reason to be more worried if the animal has an empty stomach.
However, the story behind this photo will make people not worry too much anymore.
The boy in the photo is Oun Sambath, a Cambodian, and that python is… the pet that Oun’s parents keep at home. The python, named Chamroeun, has lived with Sambath’s family since Oun was 3 months old, so the boy and the animal are like close friends, inseparable. The boy’s parents were not worried about the close relationship between him and the python, and even believed that Chamroeun brought good luck.
Talking about their encounter with the giant python, Oun’s family said that in 2000, Khoun Samol’s family was extremely surprised to see a small snake sleeping under the mattress of their 3-month-old son, Oun. year old. Seeing the presence of the small snake, seems unwilling to leave his son’s mattress, Mr. Samol considered it a good omen and decided to keep the animal.
News of the strange closeness between the animal and the child spread, and Chamroeun and Oun became famous “reluctantly”. As Chamroeun grew bigger, the friendship between Oun and Chamroeun attracted the attention of international media, reporters from The Associated Press, British television station Sky News, and documentary filmmakers. .. came to my home for an interview.
People from all over Cambodia also came to see with their own eyes the sight of Oun riding on the giant python, hugging and petting the animal.

Since 2005, the giant python has eaten 10kg of chicken every two weeks, at a cost of $25, leaving the family barely able to afford it even with the help of visitors bringing food. eat for it.
By 2011, the year python Chamroeun was 12 years old, his “brother” Oun Sambath was also that old. However, Chamroeun is up to 5 meters long, the diameter of the largest body is nearly half a meter, the weight is up to more than 150kg and it takes 4 adults to carry it out of the room.Chamroeun’s size is 6 times larger than Oun.
Mr. Samol said that Chamroeun had never bitten anyone before, but it sank its teeth into Oun’s lower leg.
“While the python was biting my son, I tried to break his tail and make him open his mouth,” Mr. Samol said. “Its teeth are quite long so blood flows out a lot.”Little Oun was taken to a local clinic. Just a few days later, the wound was almost completely recovered, except for small scabs and light bruises on his calf.
Immediately after Oun returned home from the clinic, Samol called a rescue team to take Chamroeun to the Phnom Tamao Wildlife Rescue Center and zoo in Takeo province.
The center’s director said Chamroeun will not be able to leave the zoo or live in the wild. “Because the python is used to be fed, the python cannot catch wild animals to eat, so we cannot release it. We may have to keep it in the zoo for a long time.”
Since then, it is unclear how the python has lived in the zoo, but the strange friendship story between boy Oun and the python still leaves many impressions on everyone.
