In the seas near Japan, Indonesia and the Philippines, there exists a type of sea creature shaped like extremely adorable lambs. They are sea slugs Costasiella kuroshimae, also known as Leaf Sheep.
Leaf sheep are extremely adorable.
The appearance of this sea slug easily reminds viewers of characters in animated movies with small round eyes, pink cheeks and green tentacles attached around its body.
The average length of an adult Leaf Sheep is only about 5mm and they are one of the very few animals capable of photosynthesis like plants.
A “baby” leaf sheep has a shape similar to a succulent plant.
Their favorite food is algae and this is also a source of energy for photosynthesis.
After appearing in high resolution, the Leaf Sheep caused a fever with many comments saying that this is the cutest sea creature in the world. Many people did not expect there to be a creature so similar to the cartoons.
However, this is not the only sea slug species with such a unique appearance. Jorunna parva sea slugs are equally cute with a shape that resembles rabbits.
They have white fur and small round dots. Their long, pointed ears are actually used to detect chemicals in the water and help them locate and move throughout the ocean.
