Strange transparent creature found in New Zealand sea
A fisherman caught a strange creature off the coast of New Zealand, with an external shape like a shrimp but with a transparent body like a jellyfish. British oceanographic experts believe that it is a type of sea goby with the scientific name Salpa maggiore.
Mr. Stewart Fraser and the transparent animals
Mr. Stewart Fraser and his sons went fishing and discovered a transparent shrimp swimming near the water’s surface in the sea about 70 km north of the Karikari peninsula. Mr. Fraser describes this strange creature’s entire body as transparent, with only an orange spot in the middle.
The sea goby was found off the coast of New Zealand
Like Mr. Fraser, neighboring fishermen were very surprised, saying they had never seen this animal.
Meanwhile, marine biologist Deborah Cracknell at the British National Marine Aquarium in Plymount City said she believes the animal is a type of goby with the scientific name Salpa maggiore.
Director of conservation and information at the National Marine Aquarium Paul Cox explains further: “Few people know about this sea goby. They are often found in cold waters and are abundant in the Southern Ocean. The fish’s body is round and moves by contracting and pumping water into its body like plastic. They live by stretching their bodies to get water through filters, sucking in phytoplankton in the layer near the water surface.
