Transparent creature confuses netizens with unknown identity, the truth is that it is not a shrimp and has an amazing talent for hiding
Photos spread on social networks about this creature have received a lot of attention from the online community.
According to Insight, in recent days, netizens have passed around a few pictures with the caption: “Transparent shrimp in deep water in Japan” which has attracted a lot of attention.
In the photo are shrimp about 17cm long caught by fishermen. The special thing here is that this creature is completely transparent and can see through its internal organs. The shrimp’s legs also have no color. The strange appearance of the shrimp makes netizens extremely excited. However, in fact, these photos have been circulating on Chinese social networks since 2017.
It is known that this creature has the English name Cystisoma, belonging to a subspecies of marine crustaceans called hyperphid amphipods. This creature is a master of disguise and evolves this ability depending on the depth it inhabits. At depths below 900 meters, where sunlight cannot reach, Cystisoma is often red or black. Meanwhile, animals living at depths from 9 meters to 304 meters, where sunlight can shine but not much, will have a transparent color.
Scientists say that if you look underwater with the naked eyes, you will never see Cystisoma. Its image can be obtained thanks to the flash of the camera lens.
With a transparent appearance, Cystisoma can avoid enemies. In addition, their average size is also smaller than normal shrimp, so it is not difficult to become “invisible” in the ocean.
Regarding the specialness of Cystisoma, netizens are very excited, some say that it looks no different from a balloon filled with water. If you saw this animal underwater, you would probably only see its floating orange internal organs.
