Wild animals getting out onto the road and blocking the way for vehicles and locals have been reported several times.
In most cases, it’s an elephant that causes all these troubles. These animals often come out of the jungle in search of food. They often destroy farms, houses, and even attack humans. We have even seen videos in the past where people were seen talking to the elephants so that they don’t hurt others. Here, we have a new video from Tamil Nadu where a wild elephant is seen attacking a taxi that was carrying tourists. The tourists and the driver narrowly escaped the attack as they ran out of the car.
The video has been shared by Asianet News on their YouTube channel. This incident happened somewhere on the Mettupalayam-Kotagiri National Highway. The road is often used by tourists to reach Ooty, which is a popular destination in the area. In this video, we see a Hyundai Xcent taxi parked on the roadside with an elephant standing next to it. According to the report, the tourists were traveling in the taxi, and when they reached a spot, they saw the elephant on the road and stopped. When the elephant saw the car, it started running towards it. The people sitting in the car were scared, including the driver, who is said to be from Pollachi, Coimbatore.
Elephant attacking car
All of them opened the doors and ran away from the car to safety. The elephant started attacking the car. The windows were rolled down in the sedan. The elephant took things from the cabin and discarded them on the road. Similarly, the car’s driver-side door was also damaged by the elephant. After attacking the car from the front, the elephant walked to the rear and hit the trunk. The elephant even lifted the car and nearly pushed it down from the road. We can hear locals who were on the road screaming and making noises to distract the elephant so that it would leave the car and move back into the jungle.
The car looks damaged in the video. The reporter mentions that elephants are often spotted on this road; however, this is the first time an elephant has attacked a vehicle in this region. The locals did call forest officials, and they moved the elephant back into the jungle. This is not the first time we have come across an incident like this in India.
A few months ago, a wild elephant charged towards bikers who had stopped behind a truck.
Both of them narrowly escaped the attack as they climbed into the truck’s cabin on time. It is always a good idea not to stop a car in a forested area. Avoid traveling through these areas at night. If you ever come across a case like this, always try to remain calm and stay inside the car. If you see the animals walking towards you, then slowly drive the car in reverse without making much noise. If you have the time, then run to a safer spot if you cannot drive the car back.
