Tourists at the West Midlands safari park – England were horrified when they witnessed the scene of a group of 9 female lions rushing to devour the alpha male lion.
According to a clip posted by the Daily Mail on September 6, a group of female lions can be seen ferociously wrestling a male lion named Jilani to the ground and then attacking and biting him. Safari staff were forced to intervene and spray fire extinguishers at the lionesses to chase them away.
According to some estimates, the females may want to kill the male because he is too old to be the leader. This is something that often happens in nature.
However, Ms. Mya Beverstock, who filmed the video, said that perhaps the brutal “group beating” happened because of a food dispute. “It happened very suddenly. We suddenly heard a roar when the lions were at feeding time. The two females stepped back and did not participate while the others attacked the leader. Yes Maybe the male took the food before it was his turn” – Ms. Beverstock recounted.

The West Midlands safari park’s announcement also confirmed that the cause of the fight was a fight over food.
“Jilani and her two other siblings usually travel together and run the lioness pride. However, in this incident, the other females got involved first. My experienced staff immediately present at the scene and handle the fight” – quoted the park’s announcement.
It is known that Jilani has been cared for by veterinarians. Although Jilani was brutally beaten, luckily Jilani only suffered minor injuries and was given painkillers. “He is resting with his other brothers, away from the lioness pride. However, he will rejoin the pride this weekend. New males were brought into the lioness pride last year so they is still gradually stabilizing under the supervision of staff” – West Midlands park added.
